Preparing for the Project Management Professional Certification™ Exam

Project Managers view PMP Certification, granted through the Project Management Institute, as an important credential. Achieving certification is no easy task. Applicants must prove that they have amassed the requisite experience, and also pass a difficult Certification Exam.

To prepare for the Exam, many project managers take an intensive prep course. One of the largest course purveyors in the world turned to Prometheus to create their course materials. The requirements:

• Create classroom-based educational materials that adhere closely to the content to be included in the PMP Exam.
• Make the materials detailed enough so that different instructors, in different parts of the world, will be able to conduct their classes in a consistent manner.
• Include lecture sequences and application exercises.
• Offer plenty of Exam-Formatted practice quizzes.
• Build in some human interest to liven up this essentially dry material.

We engaged a PMP-certified content expert to help us create the content for this program.

We created these deliverables to be used in the program:

• Instructor guide, with detailed lecture content, examples, exercises, and discussion points
• Student textbook, covering the material in all of the lectures and exercises
• Practice exams, for in-depth practice on each area of the course
• Case Study Booklet, including all the project-management documentation required to support a multi-million dollar construction project. Each section of the Case Study was designed to reinforce a particular area of the course, requiring learners to understand and apply what they learned in order to resolve Case Study problems.

Special Skills/Software

• The Instructor Guide, Student Text and Practice Exams were all built in the publisher’s proprietary software system. 
• Many of the graphics and Case Study documents were built in Microsoft Project.
